Stress as a phenomenon of modern life has come to stay as inevitable. It is widely prevalent and makes its hideous presence in almost every sphere of life. Therefore its proper understanding and effective management are important.
Stress has been an inalienable companion of man from the beginning. It was indeed necessary for man’s survival especially during the hunting stage of evolution. And it indeed is necessary even today in moderation. It becomes morbidity only when it exceeds the limits of moderation. And when it does it so, it calls for management and sometimes even treatment of the symptoms that follow.
Today stress is a consequence of highly competitive environment. In the rat race, that makes the present times, everybody comes to get under pressure. There are targets, goals ends and all are time bound. The anxiety to reach the goal well in time and even before other’s reach there, leads to a stressful state. A moderate degree of stress would indeed be helpful in reaching the target. But when the pressure gets build up , the same stress exceeds the desirable limits and become self-defeating.
Management of stress: Very Important for MBA Entrance Exams
There is a tendency to fight stress out. It is here that an endless battle begins. The efforts should be to handle a stress so that its sharp claws are blunted and it serves a purpose rather than destroy it. It should be understood well that body and mind affect each other. When the body is unwell the mind cannot stay happy or even normal. It will turn at least melancholic if not highly irritable. Vice-versa is also equally true. Therefore it is a mistake to deal with stress at the mental level alone. Since the body and the mind are complements of each other, it is evident the stress can be dealt with by managing both. It is an undeniable truism that a sound mind resides in a sound body. A person with a good health is least likely to be affected by stress. And even if he does, the intensity will be considerably less and the return to normalcy will be quicker and vastly unimpaired.
What is a healthy body?
A healthy body is one which:-
1. Receives plenty of fresh air.
2. Gets adequate exercise
3. Ingests balanced food which includes, besides the staple item, seasonal fruit, green leafy vegetables.
4. Enough Water.
Intake of fresh air is of vital importance as it provides nourishment to the brain as well. Exercise is no less significant as life is primarily structured for movement. Any neglect of both these or either will breed ill health.
Water is, it seems, from where life has emerged. Therefore water is its essential requirement. For an adult whether in summer or winter, a minimum of 4 liters is the requirement for a day.
